There are specific actions you can take to greatly enhance the quality of your sleep. As with my book, The Holistic Home: Feng Shui for Mind Body Spirit Space and my business, The Holistic Home Company, it’s all about looking deeper within the surface of your space, to tackle your challenges by using three planes of action – mind, body and spirit – in your home to evoke the most effective change. The mind covers the psychology of how we dwell and the subconscious symbolism in our surroundings. The body portion is all things physical – positioning of furniture, colors, design, sustainability, levels of organization and efficiency. Spirit covers the invisible energies, Feng Shui, the soul of the home, the atmosphere. Implement these tips and guaranteed, your nightly slumber session will be deeper and more restorative.

A Mind Tip
IMG_5046 A vital aspect to waking up feeling well rested is to address the
subconscious influences in your bedroom. Take a look at the artwork. Do
you have pictures of crashing waves or a serene ocean landscape? Imagery
here should not be contraversial, shocking or jarring but ideally it
should make you feel soothed and at ease.

Remove workout equipment. A tread mill or exercise balls are blatant
reminders of action you did or didn’t take. Avoid having a To-Do list by
the bed or a stack of unread books. Unfinished business weighs heavily
on your subconsciousness and impead a deeply restful night sleep.

A Body Tip

Remove all the electronic pollution – especially close to your head
while you sleep. Studies abound regarding the harmful effects of
electronic magnetic fields (EMF’s) so err on the safe side by keeping
your nightstand free of tablets and smart phones and at the very least,
place these devices as well as your alarm clock across the room.

A Spirit Tip

Invisible energies include your own natural rhythms. Getting into the groove of your circadium rhythm is key to waking up feeling fully rested and raring to go. Its essential to create an environment that taps into the power of darkness and light that innately
guide your body to sleep and wakefulness. A sleeping mask, black out
curtains and a ban on electronic devices for at least 30 minutes before
bed are immensely helpful in ushering in nocturnal reverie.
If your bedroom does not have natural light streaming in in the morning,
set a low-wattage light on a timer to gently illuminate your
surroundings at least 15 minutes before your wake up time.

A Space Tip

Use a sleep spray on your face, pillow and environment before bed.
“Sleep” by my company, T
sleephe Holistic Home Company uses lavender, chamomile and sandalwood. The chamomile in particular (just as you would use it in its tea form before bed to make you drowsy) can be quite powerful in its essential oil form.

Sweet Dreams!
